Our Philosophy
At Whelan's Coastal Pack, we take a holistic approach to dog behavior, acknowledging the deep connection between a dog's mental and physical well-being. By focusing on the three key pillars of exercise, discipline, and affection, you can create a balanced and fulfilling life for your dog. As I see it, a dog's energy is a direct reflection of their owner's – so achieving balance in your own life is essential to having a balanced dog. By taking charge of your own energy and emotions, you'll be better equipped to lead your dog and build a stronger, more harmonious relationship.
What Is Dog Psychology?
Dog psychology can be defined as understanding the natural instincts and behaviours of dogs to effectively communicate and build a balanced relationship with them. Recognizing that dogs are pack animals with a need for structure and leadership is essential. I emphasize the importance of fulfilling a dog's instincts through exercise, discipline, and affection, in that order. By highlighting the concept of hierarchy pack dynamics, where humans take on the "pack leader" role, we can tap into their natural behaviors and needs, by establishing ourselves as the pack leader, we can create a calm surrender state in our dogs, leading to a harmonious coexistence.

I ensure that dogs are never stuck in a state of mind that's unnatural to them, and I'm committed to helping them thrive in our human world. My aim is for dogs to feel safe, protected, and guided.
I firmly believe that dogs need to be challenged in a positive way to grow, and that every dog is unique, requiring tailored approaches. Structure and consistency are key to a dog's happiness, as it eliminates uncertainty and guesswork.

BEHAVIOUR REHABILITATION PROGRAM

Intensive Support For Serious Behaviour Challenges
This program is designed for dogs experiencing significant behavioural challenges that owners are currently unable to safely or effectively manage on their own.
During the program, your dog lives and trains with me while I focus on creating structure, improving communication, and addressing the root causes behind problematic behaviours.
Unlike traditional board-and-train programs, owner education is built directly into the process.
Each weekend your dog returns home, allowing us to:
- Review progress
- Practice new skills together
- Build owner confidence
- Prepare for long-term success

Lasting success happens when owners understand how to maintain and build upon the progress their dog has made. By the end of the program, you'll have both a more balanced dog and the knowledge needed to continue that growth

All services provided are considered final sale. Due to the time, preparation, and commitment required for each appointment, no refunds will be issued once a service has been completed.

A Late Fee of $5.00 per day will be applied to overdue payments. We appreciate your prompt payment, and this policy helps us manage our business efficiently.

WCP Members Feedback
Pack Walks
Join us every second Saturday at 12:00 PM for our FREE Community Pack Walk at Bowring Park! We meet in the grassy field immediately to the left as you enter through the main gate before heading out together on a calm, structured walk. Whether you're looking to build your dog's confidence, help them become calmer around other dogs, improve your leash handling, or simply enjoy time with fellow dog owners, everyone is welcome. These walks provide a safe, supportive environment where dogs learn to coexist peacefully while owners gain valuable insight into their dog's behaviour and strengthen their relationship together. It's also a great opportunity to meet like-minded people, ask questions, and become part of a growing community that's passionate about raising balanced, happy dogs. Whether your dog is young, older, confident, or still learning, these walks are designed to help both you and your dog succeed. No perfect dog required—just a willingness to learn and enjoy the journey together.
